i sit along this realm
waiting for a sign
one that blends but somehow binds
my eyes with yours
like darkness meeting light
like one becoming the other
before either knows what happened
and we head toward our truth
like a black hole pulling
everything close enough
to eventually become part of it
i yearn for my time
not as we usually think of it
but as it exists beneath everything
through metal
through stone
through the marks left behind
when hands have touched something
long enough to change it
through time and history
through versions of our youth
that still somehow live
inside the people we became
i know one day i’ll stand here
years from whatever this is
but will i look at myself
or will i still look at you
will you even be a thought
inside my mind
or will your name become
something soft around the edges
something i remember feeling
before i remember why
i believe you will stay
because we exist everywhere at once
in places we have left
in rooms we no longer enter
in songs that still know
exactly where to touch us
in the hands that once held us
and you exist as i do
somewhere inside mine forever
because once i hold something
i have never been good
at completely letting go
the tips of my fingers
they become accustomed
to cracks in stones
to edges that once felt sharp
to places where something broke
but somehow remained standing
to what i’ve been told
to what i chose to believe
to the little lies
we tell each other
when honesty feels heavier
than what we know how to carry
but the thing is
i am rarely afraid
the only thing that scares me
is time
how two people can exist together
inside the same moment
and still let stubbornness
build entire years between them
how we may not have enough of it
to become softer
to say what we meant
to take back what we didn’t
how little things can turn into distance
and distance into something
we can no longer cross
how one missed moment
can become another
and another
until suddenly
we are looking backward
at something we thought
we still had time to fix
and blood
how it runs so deep
deeper than we can say
moving quietly beneath skin
carrying everything
without ever asking
where it is supposed to go
and these veins
they do feel in vain
when everything inside me
knows how to move
but neither of us does
when the body knows
how to carry life forward
while the mind keeps circling
the same place
like my hands against your neck
like the warmth beneath my fingers
like the pulse i could feel
before either of us spoke
like the signs i leave
inside songs i wrote
inside words you may never read
inside time that existed
simply because somewhere within it
i thought of you
we find time beside the cracks
beside the reasoning
beside everything
we thought we knew
and maybe that is where
the truth actually lives
not in certainty
but in the spaces
where certainty breaks
in the pause before an answer
in the silence after a question
in everything we feel
before we decide
what to call it
because with what time gives us
we begin to realize
how little we can control
how much we misunderstand
how often we become sure
before we ever really know
how often we build walls
around answers
that were never ours
and maybe one day
time will make this clear
maybe the metal will rust
maybe the stone will soften
maybe the cracks will widen
until light finally reaches
the places we kept hidden
or maybe time
does nothing of the sort
maybe it simply moves
while we stand here
trying to understand it
watching years become memory
and memory become something
we can no longer touch
and maybe that is what scares me
not losing you
not losing this
but waking one day
and realizing
we let something beautiful
become history
because neither of us
wanted to move first
because there are only
so many nights
so many hands
so many moments
where two people stand
close enough to feel
the same warmth
and eventually
even the stars we look at
are only light
from something
that may already be gone
so maybe this is us
still shining
still reaching
still believing
there is time
while somewhere
beyond what we can see
the moment has already passed
or maybe
just maybe
we are still inside it
